Well, That Was a Rough One
Hey folks - Brad here. I hope everyone reading this made it through Hurricane Ian okay. I know a lot of you didn't come out unscathed and I'm sorry about that. We're all still cleaning up.
I've been doing this over 15 years and I gotta say, Ian was WORSE than Irma for a lot of areas around here. Irma in 2017 was bad don't get me wrong, but Ian just sat on us. The flooding was unreal - especially south of Bee Ridge and down toward Venice and North Port. Fort Myers obviously got the worst of it, but Sarasota got hit harder than a lot of people outside Florida realize.
What Storm Damage Looks Like on Concrete
So here's what me and the crew have been seeing on our assessment calls:
- Slab lifting and settling - floodwater washes out the base material underneath your slab. The concrete looks fine on top but it's sitting on nothing underneath. You step on it and it feels hollow or wobbly.
- Tree root heaving - all those downed trees? Their root balls pulled up walkways and patio edges when they went over. Seen a LOT of this in Gulf Gate and Osprey.
- Cracked driveways from debris impact - one guy on Clark Road had a palm trunk land dead center on his driveway. Snapped the slab clean through.
- Pool deck damage - flooding undermined pool decks and now they're cracked or sinking on one side.
What We're Doing About It
We're offering priority scheduling for storm damage repairs right now. I know there's a line for every contractor in town - roofers, electricians, everybody's slammed. But we're trying to get to the safety stuff first. If your walkway is a trip hazard or your driveway is sinking toward your foundation, that's a priority.
If it's cosmetic - like a hairline crack that wasn't there before - we'll still get to you, it's just gonna take a bit. Bear with us.
Give us a call or shoot us a text and we'll come do a free assessment. We're all in this together Sarasota. 💪
