The Night Before Checklist
Hey y'all - so you've got a concrete job scheduled and you're wondering what you need to do before we show up. Good question. A little prep on your end goes a LONG way toward keeping the job on schedule and on budget. Here's what we recommend:
Move Your Cars
This is the big one. We're bringing a concrete truck and it's not small. We need clear access to the pour area and sometimes that means your whole driveway plus a chunk of the street. If you've got two cars in the garage, get them out the night before and park them down the street. Seriously - I can't tell you how many times we've shown up and spent the first 30 minutes waiting for someone to move their Camry.
Clear the Work Area
Potted plants, garden hoses, decorations, that random pile of stuff in the corner of the patio - move it all. We need at least 3-4 feet around the pour area to work. If it's a driveway, clear the garage entrance too because we're gonna be going back and forth.
Mark Your Sprinkler Heads
This one's important. If you have irrigation heads anywhere near where we're working, put a little flag or stake next to each one. We do our best to watch for them but they're easy to miss in the grass. Nothing worse than hitting a sprinkler line during demolition. A $2 flag saves a $200 repair.
Tell Your Neighbors
We're gonna be loud. Concrete demolition involves a jackhammer and a skid steer. Plus the concrete truck beeps when it backs up. If you've got a neighbor who works nights or a new baby next door, just give them a heads up. We try to start at a reasonable hour but demo is demo - it's loud.
Pets and Kids
Keep them inside during the pour. Fresh concrete is not something you want a dog running through. Trust me I have stories. One golden retriever, one freshly poured patio, paw prints everywhere. The homeowner thought it was "cute" but uh... yeah. We had to redo a section.
Other Quick Things
- Make sure we can access your water spigot - we'll need water
- If the gate to the backyard is locked, leave it open
- Let us know if your HOA needs anything specific
That's it. Easy stuff. The more prepped you are, the faster we work, and the sooner you've got beautiful new concrete. Questions about your upcoming job? Shoot us a text.
