Growing the Arsenal
Hey y'all, Brad here with a quick update. 2019 was a really good year for us. Stayed busy all year, took on some great projects from Bradenton down to North Port, and the crew really hit their stride. So we're putting some of that back into the business with new equipment heading into 2020.
New Power Screed
This is the one I'm most excited about. We picked up a new magnesium power screed - the kind with the vibrating blade. For you non-concrete folks, a screed is what we use to level the concrete after it's poured. We've been using a manual screed forever which is basically just a straight board that two guys pull across the forms.
The power screed vibrates as it levels and that does two things. First it gets the surface flatter and more consistent. Second the vibration consolidates the concrete better which means fewer air pockets and a stronger slab. My back is also pretty happy about it since it takes a lot of the physical strain out of screeding big pours.
Already used it on a job over on Cattlemen Rd last week and the difference is noticeable. The guys love it too.
Bigger Equipment Trailer
We upgraded to a 20-foot equipment trailer. Our old one was a 16-footer and we were playing Tetris every morning trying to fit everything on it. Bobcat, forms, tools, the wheelbarrows - it was getting ridiculous. The new trailer gives us room to haul everything in one trip instead of sometimes making two which saves time and fuel.
Not the most glamorous purchase but when you're running jobs from University Pkwy all the way down to Venice in the same week, having a rig that's ready to go makes a huge difference.
Looking Ahead
2020 is shaping up to be a big year. We've already got projects lined up through February and the phones have been ringing. I'm thinking about adding another crew member or two if things keep going the way they are.
We're also looking at getting into concrete polishing for garage floors and commercial spaces. That's a whole different animal but there's a lot of demand for it around Lakewood Ranch and the new developments going up along Fruitville.
Anyway just wanted to share. We're always trying to get better at what we do and having the right tools is a big part of that. Here's to a great 2020. Thanks to everybody who trusted us with their projects this year - we don't take that for granted.
Got a project in mind for the new year? Give us a call. Let's make it happen.
